Abstract: Various issues concerning optimal feeding and optimal slaughtering are studied, following different formulations of the problem. We discuss separate and joint modeling, ´one-step look-ahead´ and global procedures, deterministic and stochastic models. The price functions involved typically have jumps going from one weight category to the next. Special emphasis is given to two models, one with simplifying assumptions on the weight distribution, the other with a linear price approximation.
